Information for the 2017 BYOD Program
Welcome to the Mount Scopus BYOD Program Portal. Here you will find Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), Policies and Procedures and other useful information regarding the program.
In 2014, Mount Scopus introduced the one-to-one iPad program for all students in Years 4 to 10. The use of these personal devices has enhanced learning in numerous ways, and has assisted students in developing a 21st Century skillset, whilst helping the College to satisfy contemporary curriculum requirements.
Much has changed technologically over the past two and a half years since the introduction of this program. The development of a wide spectrum of devices that are well suited to a learning environment has given schools the ability to evolve from using a single mandated device to one that suits the individual learner.
Therefore, from the start of the 2017 academic year, Mount Scopus will implement a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) approach that allows students in the Secondary School (Years 7-12) a choice in the device that they use. Please note that the device needs to meet the stipulated minimum requirements below so that all students can achieve the learning outcomes of the Mount Scopus curriculum and have a similar learning experience.
Device Requirements Years 4 to 12 2017
Years 4 to 6: The iPad continues to meet the needs of learners in the Primary School (Years 4-6) given the range of educationally relevant apps available, together with ready access to a camera. This combined with the mobility, weight and durability of iPads continues to make the iPad the appropriate learning device in the Primary School for the foreseeable future.
Years 7 to 12: Students will have the option of continuing to use an iPad as their primary learning device or bringing a Windows or Mac device.
We highly recommend that new devices are purchased with a comprehensive three year warranty and a robust case. Parents will be notified when our Device Portal, with further recommendations and Apps Lists, are updated during Term 4.
